Getting the most from EatDrinkDeals

Welcome to EatDrinkDeals! We want to connect you with the best wining and dining deals in town. This page is a guide to how to navigate our web site and make the most of the information we provide.  Also you can can view a Flash demo by clicking here.

The Basics

If you are a new EatDrinkDeals user, when you first visit the site there is one selection you should make: Pick the city you are interested in.

To select the city, click on the pulldown as shown on the screen at left (see 1. Select City), and then just click the one you want. The map re-centers to that city, and the list on the right is re-populated with the restaurants and bars we've found with specials.

Next, select a place that interests you, either by location (see 2. Click a place on the map) or from the alphabetical list on the right of the screen. Once you've selected a place, an information window with details pops up, like the one in the screen capture (3. View details). In that window you can view details on the specials by day, or coupons for places that offer them. For more details on a site, click on the website link. It will take you directly to the place's own website.

Switching Views

Instead of using the map view, you can see all the specials for a city in an alphabetized list by switching your view to a Table. The screen capture at right illustrates the Table View. After you have selected your city (1), click the Table View button (2) and the map switches from a map to the list you see at right.

In the Table View, every place we cover is in an alphabetical list.  Any specials and coupons they have are listed by day of the week.

The far right column lists who updated the entry and when the update was entered.

You can search the table using your browser's Find function.  You can also jump directly to the website for a place by clicking on the blue Website link.

Editing Content

Although EatDrinkDeals employs a fact-checker and diligently tries to keep all information current, specials do change frequently and our information could be out of date.  For that reason, EatDrinkDeals allows all users to edit specials content.

The last user to edit pIace information is identified by username (if logged into the site) or by IP address if not logged in.  This is the Wikipedia model and is intended to prevent or at least discourage frivolous edits.

If you do have more up-to-date information on a place, we encourage you to go ahead and edit what we have.  The edit screen is shown at left.  While in Table View, click Edit (1).  The Update Place Information window appears, and you can then edit any field (2).  The right-hand column will be updated with the time of your edit, and your user name or IP address.

Other Features

There are several other useful sections on EatDrinkDeals.  First is our directory of Food (or 'Foodie') blogs.  Most of the cities we cover have local bloggers who give their opinions about places to eat and drink.  We have a directory of popular national blogs (left) and from there you can click on a city to see the local food blogs.

We also have a Forums section (right) where users can post opinions about bars and restaurants.   You need to register and log in to post, but not to read the forums.
