Throughout the day, participating non-mall Dairy Queen and DQ Grill & Chill® locations across the U.S. will serve fans a FREE small vanilla soft-serve cone with the signature curl on top. Limit one per customer while supplies last.
At the same time, participating locations also will collect donations for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals®.
“Soft serve is part of our brand DNA and the taste is unmatchable. The DQ® soft-serve cone fans have come to love is one of the most recognized treats in the world and is fondly referred to as the ‘cone with the curl on top,’” said Barry Westrum, executive vice president of Marketing for American Dairy Queen Corporation (ADQ). “We can’t think of a better way to show our appreciation to fans, kick off the Spring season and support such an amazing cause than with a Free Cone Day.”
“We’re excited and ready to go for our Third Annual Free Cone Day,” added Westrum. “Free cones have become a fan tradition — they love it. The icing on the cake is supporting Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.”
Last year, the Dairy Queen system raised more than $200,000 in one day for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.
During Free Cone Day, the DQ system is accepting donations for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, which raises funds to help save and improve the lives of kids treated at 170 children’s hospitals across the U.S. and Canada. Over the last 32 years, the Dairy Queen system has raised more than $120 million for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals in local communities.

Dairy Queen, often abbreviated DQ, is a chain of soft serve and fast food restaurants owned by International Dairy Queen, Inc, which also owns Orange Julius and Karmelkorn. The name “Dairy Queen” is taken from the name of their soft serve product, which the company refers to as “Dairy Queen” or “DQ”. The first Dairy Queen store opened in 1940 in Joliet, Illinois. The company’s corporate offices are located in Edina, Minnesota. In 2016 Dairy Queen had 6,700 locations.
A popular Dairy Queen item is the Blizzard, which is soft-serve mechanically blended with mix-in ingredients such as sundae toppings and/or pieces of cookies, brownies, or candy. It has been a staple on the menu since its introduction in 1985, a year in which Dairy Queen sold 100 million Blizzards. Popular Blizzard flavors include: Oreo Cookies, mint Oreo, chocolate chip cookie dough, M&M’s (Smarties in Canada),Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup, Heath bar, and Butterfinger.
